Baccalaureate Degrees
Georgia Regents University awards undergraduate degrees with honors to candidates who meet specific standards of academic excellence as measured by the grade point average. A student must have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours in residence for a baccalaureate degree to be awarded with honors. Only work taken in residence will be considered when calculating the honors grade point average. The honors grade point average is computed beginning with the semester of initial enrollment in the current program. Grade point averages will be truncated to the nearest hundredth to determine eligibility.
One-Year Certificate Programs
Georgia Regents University awards honors to students who successfully complete a program of study in a one-year-certificate program and who meet specific standards of academic excellence as measured by the grade point average. For a certificate to be awarded with honors, a student must have completed a minimum of 30 semester hours in residence. Only work taken in residence will be considered when calculating the honors grade point average. The honors grade point average is computed beginning with the semester of initial enrollment or, for students in the College of Allied Health Sciences, with enrollment in the current program. Grade point averages will be truncated to the nearest hundredth to determine eligibility.

Excellence in academic work is recognized at graduation by the award of honor rank in general scholarship. For students completing all work at Georgia Regents University the Regents grade point average is used in the awarding of academic honors. A student who averages 3.85 or more is graduated summa cum laude; one who averages 3.65, but less than 3.85, is graduated magna cum laude; and one who averages 3.50, but less than 3.65, is graduated cum laude. This distinction of high academic achievement is placed on the student's diploma and is noted on the permanent record.
A student who has transferred to Georgia Regents University is eligible to graduate with honors only if the grade point average for his or her university career meets one of the above requirements and the student has completed at least 60 hours of courses in residence for the bachelor's degree (30 hours in residence for the associate's degree). Also the Georgia Regents University Regents' GPA must meet the above requirements. The honors will be determined by the lower of the two GPAs.
