Each year as April approaches and spring break comes and goes, we do through an extended series of good-byes, culminating in the most important good-bye, graduation. Last night we said good-bye to the 2013-2014 Lyceum Series with a performance by Johnny Clegg. The performance was truly one of a kind. Clegg exuded positive engery as he brought the audience to their feet. The performance was an exciting end to a season that included one of the finest dance performances to ever grace this stage. Urban Bush Women visited Augusta during the ice storm in February and struggled right along with us. The earthquake the night before the performance together with the southern ice storm is something they will never forget. The dancers provided needed solice to a suprisingly large crowd that came out to get a break from the cold. In the fall we were facinated by the marvelous martionettes brought to life by Joseph Cashore. He spoke of the human condition without words and had the audience glued to the stage. The season opened with the stories of three larger than life Latin-American icons set to music by the CORE Ensemble. With each ending comes a new beginning. Please keep an eye on this website as we work towards having the 2014-2015 Lyceum Series ready for you. Watch out for your oportunity to get season tickets.
On April 3rd the Cinema Series at GRU concludes with a gripping story from out of this world. Don't miss Stanley Kubrick's classic 2001: A Space Odyssey. After spring break our ensembles from the Department of Music return for their final concerts of the year, culminating in the annual GRU Concerto Competition Winners Concert. It features three of the most talented musicians at the University, chosen by competitive audition. Each Concerto Winner will perform a solo piece with the GRU Orchestra. Finally, our theatre students from the Department of Communications will showcase their work. Student's Caught in the Actfeatures pieces written, directed, and acted by GRU students.
