Major in Political Science
Political Science Track
Are you interested in American politics? International affairs? Critical issues such as health, the environment, civil rights? Do you want to study these subjects and pursue a career based on your interest? If so, you should select political science as a major. Political science is the study of government and public policy and the political behavior of individuals and groups. Political science uses both humanistic and scientific perspectives and skills to examine the United States, all countries and regions of the world, and international relations. Political science majors acquire skills in writing, communications, and analysis that are critical to a liberal arts education. A liberal arts education prepares students to think independently, with tolerance for others and concern for current affairs.
International Studies is designed to enable and encourage students to become more proficient in understanding global affairs. The curriculum combines a student's choice of area studies (30) hours in Political Science with his or her choice (15 hours) of a number of courses offered in the Departments of History, Sociology, Languages, Literature and Communications, Psychology and the College of Business Administration. The concentration in International Studies requires language proficiency and/or the study of statistics and/or computer science and mastery of the methodological and theoretical perspectives of the discipline. The education and training provided by this concentration will provide a background for a career in government, business, education, and communications or to pursue advanced degree(s) in Political Science, International Relations, International Law or International Business.
