The Department of Communications at Georgia Regents University recognizes that communication is an integral part of human behavior, and effective communication is essential for a civil society to thrive.
Our goal is to prepare our students for careers in the field of communication or to use communication in a productive manner in whichever industry they choose. The studies within the communications major will help to make our students leaders in the GRU community and in the professional realm.
These goals of the students, faculty, and department are achieved by the coursework within the department. These studies are to develop effective and confident communication skills and a solid foundation in theory, supplemented by real-world experience through internships and senior projects.
Coursework is designed to emphasize historical and theoretical studies. The Department of Communications offers five specialized programs: Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Television & Cinema, and Theatre.
Our faculty collaborates with or advises students on professional and published work or research.
While pursuing a B.A. in Communications, students are encouraged to take advantage of the many internship opportunities available to them. Opportunities await with highly respected local, regional, national, and international organizations. The internships are carefully constructed to allow for students to be productive members of the organization, as well as to supplement their education. The department ensures that faculty and a member of the internship organization are instructing, monitoring, and assessing the intern.
