All workshops are free of charge and open to GRU students. If you are unable to attend a workshop but are interested in the topic, please contact the Counseling Center to set up an appointment to meet with the presenter on an individual basis. As space is often limited for workshops, please call and reserve your seat in advance.

BUSTING MYTHS ABOUT COUNSELING

There is a long history of stigma surrounding counseling and mental health issues.  Attend this myth-busting workshop to dispel the stigma and mystery of counseling and to learn about how counseling services at GRU can help all students.

 

SLEEP HYGIENE:  GETTING THE REST YOU CRAVE

We all enjoy a good night’s rest.  However, at this point in the semester a good night's sleep is as elusive as the North American Sasquatch.  The benefits of sleep will be highlighted and reviewed along with the secret to capturing the elusive 'good night's sleep'.  Bring your lunch and come share in an interactive discussion delivered and facilitated by Dawn Jett, LCSW, student counselor specializing in the needs of the Health Science Student.

This workshop is for anyone who would like to improve his or her relationship with food. Through learning mindful eating strategies, participants can learn to be more present when eating.

 

BOOTS TO BOOKS: HELPING OUR MILITARY/VETERAN STUDENTS

Are you a current student veteran/military?  How was it to transition to a college campus?  Do you have suggestions on how GRU can better accommodate military personnel on campus?  Come to our open forum where we discuss common challenges our military students face when returning to school.

Anxiety has become a rule for today's student rather than the exception.  Why are the ma jority of us intensely anxious and what can we do about it?  Bring your lunch and join me in a discussion of the role technology plays in our daily life and mental health.  Find out how to beat the system and lessen your overall anxiety as well as many techniques and practices that can promote long term healthier coping skills. This discussion will be delivered by Dawn Jett, LCSW.

COPING WITH THE HOLIDAY BLUES
